The pictures here are a tribute to Capt Richard Annand VC.

'Dick' Annand was one of the 11 Durham Light Infantry winners of the ultimate award for bravery and was the only surviving DLI holder of the award for many years until his death on Christmas Eve 2004. 

Capt Annand's VC was the first Victoria Cross of the Second World War awarded to the Army.

Dick's wife wrote of this picture "The lovely photograph above was taken at the Regimental Reunion in September of last year (2004) by John Attle (a friend of ours) and shows Dick as I am sure we would all wish to remember him....happy and relaxed in the company of his comrades."

Capt Annand's 90th birthday salute on November 5th 2004. His wife, Shirley, supporting him as always.

Capt Annand's medals, including his VC, are on display at the Durham Light Infantry Museum
