   Ken Lovell - An Obituary

Kenneth C. Lovell

Ken Lovell joined the 70th DLI (Young Soldiers) Battalion and served with them until about February 1942 when he went as part of a draft to 16 DLI in North Africa.  He served with 16DLI in Italy (including Salerno), Greece and back to Italy and on into Austria where the battalion was disbanded in early 1946.

At some point Ken became the secretary of the 16th DLI Old Comrades Association who continued to hold annual reunions until about 2000, when they concluded that age was making the function too difficult for their advancing years. Ken soldiered on producing a newsletter, “The Link”, and kept in touch with many of the former members of the battalion at home and overseas.

In spite of his deteriorating health Ken, supported by his two sons, made a brave attendance at The 2007 Regimental Reunion where he had the pleasure of meeting Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra.

A brave, determined and ‘faithful’ man to the end.
