A number of groups are involved in fund raising with the overall aim of safeguarding the history of the Durham Light Infantry and keeping alive the memory of those who served in the regiment.   Fund raising efforts which include application for Lottery money and grants are invariably aimed at addressing specific needs.  To keep up-to-date with these projects contact the DLI Association

The DLI Association had been approached early in 2006 about the poor state of the Primosole Bridge DLI memorial in Sicily and the DLI Association had been approached about the need to provide a fitting memorial for a brave but inadequately recognised DLI hero - Sgt John Murray VC - buried in Eire.

The first of these projects has had a successful outcome and the second is being resolved.

A third project  to suitably honour John Byrne VC DCM , the first DLI VC, was well advanced and is now complete. A special commemorative plaque is now in place.

This book, written by Vivienne Lowe and Jim Merrington, has been produced by Peter Cargill on behalf of the Brancepeth Community Association and the Durham Light Infantry Association.  The limited edition (350) production was financed by an Award For All grant.

Though it is not able to be sold (Lottery grant rules), copies may be obtained from the LI Office should you care to make a voluntary donation (min. £2.50).  Proceeds will go towards current projects including the restoration of the Primosole Bridge memorial and the raising of a suitable memorial to Sgt. John Murray VC who is buried in the English cemetery in Derrinlough, Co.Offaly, Eire.
