Sir Peter de la Billiere

Sir Peter de la Billiere has been invited to open a new office block in Sunderland on Tuesday 16 January 2007.

 

The building was previously the site of the DLI Club and all the offices in the new block have been named after heroes of the Regiment. 

 

The Honourable James Ramsbotham DL who is Chief Executive of the North East Chamber of Commerce has indicated to us that members of the Association who wish to meet Sir Peter would be most welcome.

 

The opening ceremony will take place at 1500 hrs and members who wish to accept the invitation should gather at 1430 hrs on site.  

 

   
 

Memorial Service - Thomas Griffiths

The above service will take place on Sunday 25 February 2007 in the Parish Church of Shotton Colliery commencing at 1030 hrs. Those attending should be seated by 1015 hrs and Standard Bearers should parade outside the church at 1000 hrs.

 

A Memorial Plaque honouring Pte Tommy Griffiths will be unveiled and this will be followed by an address by a representative of the Malaysian Government which will be replied to by the Regimental Representative, Col. GC Bartram TD DL

 

The Borneo Band and Bugles will be in attendance and the event will be covered by TV and Press. Afterwards there will be a reception in the Comrades Club where, after initial drinks have been purchased, PJM medals will be presented to Borneo veterans by the Malaysian Government Representative.

 

Appropriate dress with medals is expected and there will be parking facilities at the Comrades Club. A full Order of Events is enclosed with the mail version of this bulletin and secretaries should ensure that their Branch Standard Bearer is fully conversant with its contents.

 

   
 

Year End Accounts/Branch Election Returns

Also enclosed with the mail version of this bulletin are statutory Annual Returns for Association Branches.

 

The forms should be completed as soon as you are able, and you are reminded that if you fail to do so you are placing the Association's charitable status in jeopardy.

 

   
 

Greyhound Racing - Sunderland Stadium

All Branches are invited to a FREE night out at the Tetley's Sunderland Stadium.

 

The invitation includes: FREE admission & Racecard, FREE Pie & Peas, FREE first drink (mixers extra).

 

The invitation is for any Wednesday or Friday in January or February 2007 and bookings should be made on 0191 568 6200. Full details are to be found in the mail version of this newsletter.

 

   
 

Launch of 'The Rifles'

To mark the launch of 'The Rifles', a reception will take place in Durham Town Hall on Thursday 1 February 2007 at 1900 hrs.

 

Local Mayors, Serving & TA officers will be guests.

 

The Regimental Secretary has extended an invitation to the Association, however I have been asked to restrict numbers to ONE from each Branch, and any Branch unable to take up the invitation should advise the LI Office accordingly.

 

Members should attend at 1845 hrs for 1900 hrs. Dress lounge suits and medals please.
