'Fred' Lucas

        WW1 Gatehead soldier's postcards home

In 2004 a collection of postcards was offered to the Friends of the DLI Museum.  They had been sent by the soldier in this picture to his family while he served in France and Italy during the First World War.

'Fred' Lucas came from Gateshead and had grown up there, eventually working as a shipping clerk.  His son was called Fred, too, and his postcards show how he tried to keep in touch with his growing son's school work, hobbies, pets, health and so on.

The family were involved in running the The Black Horse Inn in Kell's Lane, Low Fell and Fred also worried about the business problems.

Basic details are known about Fred's family but we need to know more. Can you help?
