Major Chris Lawton MBE
took over responsibility for The Rifles Durham Office at the end of 2004.
Chris served with the Durham Light Infantry
and then
The Light Infantry when the former became part of the Light Infantry in
1968.
His job until recently involved
looking after the interests of former DLI and LI servicemen, and their war memorials
and graves all over the world and he is still involved with Regimental and family welfare.
He has often attended official functions
when his work permits and has personally represented the DLI Regiment
around the world.
Durham is still a vital
recruiting area for the
The Rifles (which now includes the former
Light Infantry) and Chris
liaises with schools and universities as well as
with the Territorial Army and Cadet force.
The Office building is also home
to the
DLI Association
which coordinates the
work of its branches. It is also one of the buildings in which
The Friends of The DLI Museum meet
and a place steeped in Regimental
history.
